cause the day will come sometime when someone actually sits down and figures out the magic system together with the suscepts/savthrows of a few dozen suitable mobs and totally cleans house. :] |
I guess ... we've only been waiting like 10 years *chuckles*. But seriously, with some mobs I can see how that works, but with some it seems to just be random suscepts, which I feel is kind of lame. If a mob has some kind of weakness, imho one should be able to figure it out from a) the room desc, b) the mob desc, or c) common sense (i.e an ice mob would be suscept to fire; a mob made of stone might be more resistant to slashing and piercing weapons etc.). Or from a combination of these three factors. Because, honestly, figuring out random things isn't all that fun. It's just kind of ... random. _________________ "Kill 'em all and let Vicks sort 'em out."

yeah, I totally agree, and when I do see mobs that should have "obvious" RIS I do change them. Randomness only seems to be an issue at the very very highest levels when resistances are used as a means of toughening mobs up. |

But I only play avs hehehe
IMHO, I don't like too much "randomness". A mob, for example, shouldn't be resist basically everything except one random weapon-type (unless there's some hint to that in the room/area/mob descs). It's just silly, because once/if someone figures it out, then the "challenge" is pretty much instantly gone. Not too mention the fact that the "challenge" is something that can only be solved through random trial and error anyways. Where's the fun in that? _________________ "Kill 'em all and let Vicks sort 'em out."

I've never seen any spell do any type of damage that could even come close to compensating casters... nor any type of protective spell to do likewise. From what I understand necromantic touch is a cleric's bread and butter.... the spell I sadly find myself using the most on my mage is cure light... how pathetic. I mean, if I manage to figure out a mob's suceptability, I want to hit him with a spell and have it OBLITERATE him and take out a nice chunk of health; especially since I can only do it once per round and so long as mana allows.... _________________ -Wedge |

You haven't fought Kellison have you?
Granted... he's a warrior. _________________ "Eye level for a kender is door-lock height for the same reason a chipmunk has extra cheek space."

Spells seems to hurt PCs more than NPC mobs... especially when mobs cast them... if Wedge's spiral blast was like Txa's, I'd roll deadly. 3 of those = everybody in the room dead. _________________ -Wedge |

Blazebane + Fireball still equals suckage for damage. |
Actually I can usually do 15% to a mob my own level with that; before factoring in swordbait+melee attacks. My biggest problem is that, at the level I'm at, most mobs beat pretty badly on me due to a lack of dodging and defense. _________________ Huh? |

(after some more experimentation/new wwiz skills)
And besides, the trick to doing well as a caster is to use your entire repertoire; I find that I have no more trouble than a warrior in doing damage if I play my cards right and mix it up a bit.
Besides, even though I can't really dodge/parry, all manner of defensive spells (sanc, protection, shadowform, eldritch...) can result in me taking very very little damage anyway. _________________ Huh? |

sometimes I wished as a caster I had a way to tell which spells were doing more damage. I like being able to see decimate and stuff but if i had a number I could maximize my use and even study the effect of my spells. |

yeah, i agree neq ... damage knowledge should be a more readily available skill/spell at the av-level. Without it it's very difficult to tell what does what. _________________ "Kill 'em all and let Vicks sort 'em out."

Not a bad idea, I've often wondered why so few classes get it. I mean, considering what it does, it doesn't make much sense to limit it to certain fighter classes. Alright, so IRL vicks might know how to scrap better than me but that doesn't mean he'll see a number pop up above some dude's head if he punches him in the face.
Ok, so giving to everyone might be a little extreme, but really certain classes that don't have it should. Like thief. Although really, since they're just constantly setting damage records with every hit, I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make |

Could be a damage knowledge skill for casters that's just spell damage.
May get a touch interesting if you have shields on and those land hits too _________________ "Sleep well, sweet child... the lord holds thee now." |

I'm working on it... give me time.
To this date I still think one of the most blatantly overlooked spells is Charm. _________________ I don't wanna die, but I 'ain't too keen on living either. |
